Thursday, June 24th, 2010In the context of Higher Education, user activity data, derived from the way people use libraries, virtual learning environments, student registries and similar services, are potentially a valuable source of business intelligence that can support improvements in services and policy, as well as the efficient management of resources. While such data have decided potential, there are technical, legal and other issues to be borne in mind. JISC is offering a workshop entitled Gaining business intelligence from user activity data for senior managers and practitioners working in libraries, teaching and research to be held on 14 July 2010 in London. Use of Social Geo-location Service at IWMW 2010 Highlighted by New Media Monthly
Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010The New Media Monthly blog has featured a case study on plans to make use of social geo-location sharing services at the forthcoming Institutional Web Management Workshop (IWMW 2010) which will be held at the University of Sheffield over 12-14 July. Her presentation addressed the theme of the workshop, Making the most of your digital content, by considering the recent developments in Open Science and genomic data and then by examining the new challenges of the data deluge in respect of large-scale data storage and other emerging trends. Bookings Now Open for IWMW 2010
Thursday, May 6th, 2010Bookings are now open for Institutional Web Management Workshop 2010 to be held from Monday 12 to Wednesday 14 July 2010 at the University of Sheffield. The cost is £350 for the 3-day event. The price includes two nights ensuite accommodation, all food and materials included. You will need to choose your parallel sessions from the workshop programme and the session abstracts when booking.

Web 2.0 and the Social Web
Wednesday, February 24th, 2010Only a few places remain for the one-day workshop entitled An Introduction to Web 2.0 and the Social Web to be held in Nottingham on Wednesday 17 March 2010. This workshop is designed for members of the museums, libraries and archives communities. It will seek to demystify the terminology and the technologies as well as address the challenges which institutions may face in seeking to make use of Web 2.0 to support the needs of their users. The workshop will be facilitated by Marieke Guy of UKOLN. Details of the Nottingham event and how to book the last few places are available.
6th International Digital Curation Conference: 6 – 8 December 2010
Thursday, January 21st, 2010The Digital Curation Centre (DCC) has announced the dates for the 6th International Digital Curation Conference (IDCC10) as Monday 6 – Wednesday 8 December 2010. The theme of the Conference this year will be Participation & Practice: growing the Curation Community through the data decade. Our venue will be Chicago, USA, where the Conference is being presented jointly with the Graduate School of Library and Information Science of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and in partnership with the Coalition for Networked Information (CNI). The Call for Papers will be released in March and registration will open in September 2010.
