The Call for Papers has opened for the CILIP Cataloguing and Indexing Group (CIG) Conference to be held 13-15 September 2010 in Exeter. Proposals should be submitted by 26 February 2010. Conference organisation will be by UKOLN.

Text Mining for Scholarly Communications and Repositories Joint Workshop

UKOLN is co-hosting an open workshop with the National Centre for Text Mining NaCTeM on 28-29 October 2009. The Joint Workshop will be held at the Manchester Interdisciplinary Biocentre, University of Manchester. The Keynote presentation titled “eScience and Semantic Computing” will be given by Professor Tony Hey, Corporate Vice President, Microsoft External Research. 5th International Digital Curation Conference (2009) Open for Registration

Registration is now open for the 5th International Digital Curation Conference: “Moving to Multi-Scale Science: Managing Complexity and Diversity” to be held 2-4 December 2009 at the Millennium Gloucester Hotel, Kensington, London. The Conference is being held by the Digital Curation Centre (DCC)external link in partnership with the Coalition for Networked Information (CNI)external link and organised by UKOLN. Shortlisted for the Remote Worker Awards

UKOLN research officer Marieke Guy has been shortlisted as a winner in the Remote Employment and BT Business Remote Worker Awards external link. Marieke is one of 5 shortlisted winners in the ‘remote worker award’ category. The winner will be announced on 10 September during a ceremony at Cliveden House, Berkshire.

Julian Cheal wins Prize at Repository Fringe

Rachel Heery

It is with great sadness that we report that Rachel Heery, former Assistant Director of UKOLN, died on Friday 24 July, after a long-term illness. Rachel joined UKOLN in 1995, and led the R&D Team and later became Assistant Director for Research and Development, until her retirement in 2007. Our thoughts are with all Rachel’s friends and colleagues, but above all her family. It is possible to send a message about Rachel.
