Tuesday, December 1st, 2009Dame Lynne Brindley, Chief Executive of the British Library and Dr Liz Lyon, Director of UKOLN, have been invited to speak at the MLA/LGA Conference on modernisation of public library services. The Conference will take place on 14 December 2009 at the Local Government House Conference Centre, Smith Square, London. Lynne Brindley and Liz Lyon will provide a session entitled The Digital Future for Libraries.
Open Science at Web Scale Closes eResearch Australia 2009
Friday, November 6th, 2009Liz Lyon, Director of UKOLN, has been invited to give the locknote address at the close of the eResearch Australia 2009 Conference to be held in Sydney over 9 – 13 November. Her locknote presentation entitled Open Science at Web Scale: breaking all boundaries? will seek to challenge our established notions of the research landscape by extending the boundaries to explore the full potential of 21st Century team science.

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009 The Digital Curation Centre (DCC) and Research Information Network (RIN) are pleased to announce the fourth meeting of the Research Data Management Forum. This event will take the theme “Dealing with Sensitive Data: managing ethics, security and trust”, and will be held on Monday 30 November and Tuesday 1 December at the Guoman Hotel, Charing Cross, London.

This DCC SCARP project workshop takes place on 2 December in London as a Pre-Conference workshop of the 5th International Digital Curation Conference.
Series of Free Web 2.0 and Social Web Workshops
Wednesday, October 21st, 2009A one-day workshop, sponsored by the MLA, introducing Web 2.0 and the Social Web to museums, libraries and archives staff will be touring the country in the next few months. Wednesday, October 14th, 2009The Call for Papers has opened for the CILIP Cataloguing and Indexing Group (CIG) Conference to be held 13-15 September 2010 in Exeter. Proposals should be submitted by 26 February 2010. Conference organisation will be by UKOLN.
UKOLN participating at DCMI 2009
Tuesday, October 13th, 2009UKOLN will be well-represented at this year’s International Conference on Dublin Core and Metadata Applications in Seoul, South Korea. 
Emma Tonkin, Talat Chaudhri and Paul Walk will be participating actively while Brian Kelly has recorded a contribution in advance. UKOLN will be introducing an innovative approach to the design of ‘application profiles’ which focuses both on engaging users at the earliest opportunity and on using an evidence-based, test-driven development approach. Text Mining for Scholarly Communications and Repositories Joint Workshop
Monday, October 5th, 2009UKOLN is co-hosting an open workshop with the National Centre for Text Mining NaCTeM on 28-29 October 2009. The Joint Workshop will be held at the Manchester Interdisciplinary Biocentre, University of Manchester. The Keynote presentation titled “eScience and Semantic Computing” will be given by Professor Tony Hey, Corporate Vice President, Microsoft External Research.
