We are pleased to announce that DevCSI, a project to support developers in Higher Education, has received funding for a further year’s work. The project is based at UKOLN and funded by JISC. This year the project will focus on organising more events for developers in Higher Education as well as carrying out research not only into the value that developers provide their institutions but also the role they play in innovation.

Wednesday, September 15th, 2010The 9th UK e-Science All Hands Meeting (AHM 2010), with the theme of e-Science: novel research, new science and enduring impact, is being held at the City Hall, Cardiff, over 13-16 September 2010. The closing panel of the conference will be a discussion of New Opportunities on the Other Side of the Chasm. It will be held in the Council Chamber at 10.45am Thursday 16 September following a short presentation on Digital Social Research by Professor David De Roure, Oxford e-Research Centre. The panellists are Professor Mark Birkin, GENeSIS Project, Dr Liz Lyon, UKOLN, Professor Gary Olson, University of Michigan and Dr Alex Voss, NCeSS.

Tap into Bath Preservation Case Study
Thursday, September 9th, 2010Ann Chapman has written a case study on the archiving of the Tap into Bath Web site. Tap into Bath was a demonstrator project to
create a searchable database of collection-level descriptions as part of the Collection Description Focus work programme back in 2004.
The site is now being archived for future reference.

Supporting Research Data Management at ECDL 2010
Monday, September 6th, 2010Liz Lyon, Director of UKOLN and Associate Director, Digital Curation Centre, will facilitate the panel on Developing Services to Support Research Data Management and Sharing during ECDL 2010 in Glasgow. The subject of the panel will be the current gap between the readiness of the current information environment to deal with large amounts of heterogeneous data and the disposition of academics in research institutions to update their practices of data management and curation. The panel will focus on this gap between digital library systems and researchers’ current practice in managing data and will explore appropriate services that can help to bridge it.
Kelly Tells THE: More to University Web Sites than League Tables

The challenge is not in jostling for position in an artificial league table, but ensuring that Web teams are willing to share best practice in exploiting the potential of the Social Web. Registration for the 6th International Digital Curation Conference (IDCC) Now Open
