The Subject Portal Project will develop portal services that provide subject-based access to the wide range of networked learning and research materials available to UK HE and FE. UKOLN currently has a vacancy for a project manager for this activity. The closing date is 18 October 2001.

Apologies to those of you who have seen very slow access to the UKOLN Web services (www.ukoln.ac.uk, www.ariadne.ac.uk, www.rdn.ac.uk, etc.) recently. This was caused by significant problems on the University of Bath network which we hope have now been resolved.

Summative Evaluation of Phase 3 of the eLib Initiative. The evaluation was carried out by ESYS Limited, and takes an independent view of the programme from outside the HE library sector.

The Resource Discovery Network (hosted by UKOLN) now has a re-designed Web site. The site offers a considerably faster search facility and highlights the RDN”s new services, such as Behind the Headlines, as well as the Virtual Training Suite – a collection of forty subject-specific tutorials designed to help students, lecturers and researchers improve their Internet information skills.
