We have a vacancy for an 0.6 FTE Assistant Resource Co-ordinator, working for three days a week, who will be required to provide support to the UKOLN Resource Co-Ordinator in the management all of UKOLN”s administrative and financial processes. The closing date for applications is 11 June.

The Guidelines for implementing Dublin Core in XML by Andy Powell and Pete Johnston is now a DCMI Recommendation. This document considers both simple (unqualified) DC and qualified DC applications. At the same time, a new set of XML schemas have been published. These support the encoding of Qualified Dublin Core metadata records, including the use of element refinements and encoding schemes, and follow the conventions described in Guidelines for expressing Dublin Core in XML.

The PORTAL project has published the results of
consultation with almost 700 potential users of institutional portals from across the tertiary education sector. The PORTAL project is funded
by the JISC, and is being undertaken by Academic Services Interactive Media at the University of Hull, and by UKOLN.

UKOLN and the National e-Science Centre are pleased to announce the second in a series of workshops being held in Edinburgh on May 16 2003. Schemas and ontologies: building a semantic infrastructure for GRIDs and digital libraries The workshop will bring together GRID and digital library implementers to consider approaches to developing, expressing and sharing schemas and ontologies.

EnrichUK, the gateway to a lottery-funded collection of 150 sites supported by the New Opportunities Fund, has been launched. Pete Dowdell of UKOLN undertook the technical development of the site, which is hosted by MIMAS.
