The PORTAL project has released a report exploring issues around the integration of
external resources from the JISC and other organisations within an institutional portal framework. PORTAL is funded by the JISC, and is
being undertaken by Academic Services Interactive Media at the University of Hull, and by UKOLN.

Issue 36 of Ariadne carries articles related to the JISC Information Environment. Andy Powell gives a graphical representation of how services and projects fit within its technical architecture and Verity Brack and Amanda Closier provide us with an overview of work in the development of the JISC IE Service Registry. Liz Lyon in an article on eBank UK considers the implications of linking research and learning outputs in an environment of asssured data provenance. Other articles include the issues of Intellectual Property Rights and metadata disclosed under the OAI-PMH Protocol, together with an account of the rescue of the BBC Domesday Project videodiscs.

An event organised by the JIBS User Group and UKOLN as a result of a growing interest within the academic library community of the issues surrounding OpenURL linking. The meeting will take place at The Diskus Conference Centre, London on the 17 September 2003.

In Practice, Good Practice: the Future of Open Archives – will take place at UKOLN, University of Bath, 4-5 September. The workshop will consider European experience of open archives regarding technical issues, organisational issues and Intellectual Property Rights.

This is followed by a discussion of perceived impediments to the take-up of institutional repositories, including both practical and cultural issues.
