Digital Curation for Modern Universities

Liz Lyon, Director of UKOLN and Associate Director, Digital Curation Centre, has been invited by the Modern Universities Research Group (MURG) to give a presentation in the Data Usage for Research strand of its forthcoming workshop whose theme is “Catapult Centres, Local Enterprise Partnerships, Data Usage for Research” on 28 September 2012 at Goodenough College, London.

Managing the Material: Tackling Visual Arts as Research Data

The Visual Arts Data Service (VADS) in conjunction with the Digital Curation Centre (DCC), through the JISC-funded KAPTUR Project, is running a one-day workshop looking at visual arts as research data. The workshop will take place on 14 September 2012. Marieke Guy of UKOLN will be co-facilitating a session on Where’s the data? What’s the use? Please note that although it is already sold out, materials from this event will be made available.

Data Management Initiatives at IFLA

Marieke Guy, Research Officer at the Digital Curation Centre, UKOLN will be co-presenting with Maggie Pickton of the University of Northampton and Sarah Jones, Digital Curation Centre at HATII, University of Glasgow, during Conference Session 116, “The role of libraries in data curation, access and preservation: an international perspective” at IFLA 2012 in Helsinki. Their presentation, to be given on the morning of 14 August 2012, is entitled Leading from the library: data management initiatives at the University of Northampton. Data Repositories Workshop at OR2012

The Digital Curation Centre (DCC)  in collaboration with the wider Research Data Management community is organising a free workshop on institutional data repositories in conjunction with Open Repositories 2012 , to be held in Edinburgh.

DCC NE England Data Management Roadshow

This is the last opportunity to register for this free DCC event taking place over 23 – 24 April 2012 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Registration will close at 2pm, Thursday 19 April.

The Roadshow is co-organised with Professor Julie McLeod, Northumbria University School of Computing, Engineering, and Information Sciences. Its programme includes an interesting range of speakers who will share examples of developing research data management services and infrastructure.

Day 1 will be a general introduction and is open to all. Best practice will be shared through case studies to help build a community of data management expertise in the North-East of England. Day 2 is a strategic training day for research support staff. The workshop provides an introduction to curation and DCC tools so you can start to plan research data management services for your institution.

Each day can be booked individually. The event will take place in the Darwin Suite, 3rd Floor Bioscience Centre, Times Square, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, NE1 4EP. A a full programme is available.

Spaces Available at DCC Belfast and London Roadshows

The Digital Curation Centre is running a series of regional roadshows to support HEIs in their research data management. Registration is open for two more DCC data management roadshows.

The London roadshow is being organised in conjunction with the Library Services at Imperial College London and will take place on 21 – 22 May 2012 at 58 Prince’s Gate, Imperial College London.

The Northern Ireland roadshow is being organised in conjunction with Queen’s University Belfast and will take place on 6 – 7 June 2012 at the Auditorium, McClay Library, Queen’s University, Belfast.
