Last Chance: Northwest England DCC Roadshow

Registration for the free DCC Roadshow on Data Management to be held in the Northwest of England over 20-21 March 2012 will close soon. The Roadshow is organised with The Library, University of Salford and will take place at the Clifford Whitworth Building, University of Salford.

DCC Roadshows are designed to support every institution in the UK to prepare for effective research data management and to understand more about how the Digital Curation Centre can help. Further information about the DCC Roadshows is available from the DCC Web site.

Data Management Plans at the DCC East Midlands Roadshow

Monica Duke of UKOLN will give a presentation on Data Management Plans at the DCC East Midlands Roadshow  being held at the University of Loughborough.  She will consider research funder requirements and data management planning in terms of what funders expect, how to write a Data Management Plan, and what DMP Online can offer.

Professor Adam Hedgecoe, Associate Director CESAGEN and Dr Liz Lyon, Associate Director, Digital Curation Centre, gave a presentation to the 7th DCC Symposium entitled Share your genome? Dealing with very personal data. The Symposium, chaired by Clifford Lynch, Executive Director, CNI, formed part of the first day’s programme of the 7th International Digital Curation Conference (IDCC11). Progress in the Data Citation Community

Writing in Issue 40, December 2011 of the DPC/DCC publication What’s New, Monica Duke of UKOLN and DCC reviews some of the developments and events which have brought together practitioners  with an interest in scholarly communication, data citation and data publishing. In her editorial “The Data Citation Community Gathers Pace“, she suggests that a community is now forming and gathering pace.

IDCC 11: Further Interviews with Conference Speakers

As part of its preparations for the 7th International Digital Curation Conference (IDCC 11), the Digital Curation Centre has arranged a series of interviews with the main speakers at the Conference.  In addition to the interview with Ewan McIntosh announced last week, we would wish to draw your attention to three further interviews with:

  • David Lynn, Head of Strategic Planning and Policy at the Wellcome Trust
  • Mark Hahnel from FigShare, Digital Science
  • Victoria Stodden, Assistant Professor at the Department of Statistics at the University of Columbia

who all share their views on the key issues surrounding the Conference.

IDCC11 Preview: An Interview with Ewan McIntosh

The 7th International Digital Curation Conference (IDCC 11) is now just 2 weeks away so don’t forget to book your place both for the main event and the pre- and post-conference workshops.

As a preview to the Conference, the Digital Curation Centre is  releasing a series of short interviews with the main conference speakers.  The first interview is with the opening keynote speaker Ewan McIntosh, the CEO of NoTosh, in which he gives insights into some of the current issues and a taster about what to expect when Ewan takes  a look at public data opportunities as he opens the first day of IDCC 11 on Tuesday 6 December at the Marriott Royal Hotel, Bristol.

 

Data Management at the Daresbury Machine Evaluation Workshop

Alex Ball of UKOLN and the UK Digital Curation Centre (DCC) will be speaking at a breakout session on data management at the 22nd Daresbury Machine Evaluation Workshop. He will provide an overview of the tools and support offered by the DCC for research data management, and demonstrate how data management plans can be designed using the DMP Online service.
