Wednesday, October 6th, 2010Brian Kelly has been featured in an interview published in El Punt, an online journal published in Girona, Catalonia, Spain. The interview took place when Brian gave a seminar on What Can We Learn From Amplified Events? at the University of Girona on 3 September 2010. For those who do not understand the Catalan language an English language version is available which is produced by the Google Translate service. Although the quality of the translation is less than ideal, it does help to convey the underlying message.
UK e-Science AHM 2010 Considers New Opportunities on the Other Side of the Chasm
Wednesday, September 15th, 2010The 9th UK e-Science All Hands Meeting (AHM 2010), with the theme of e-Science: novel research, new science and enduring impact, is being held at the City Hall, Cardiff, over 13-16 September 2010. The closing panel of the conference will be a discussion of New Opportunities on the Other Side of the Chasm. It will be held in the Council Chamber at 10.45am Thursday 16 September following a short presentation on Digital Social Research by Professor David De Roure, Oxford e-Research Centre. The panellists are Professor Mark Birkin, GENeSIS Project, Dr Liz Lyon, UKOLN, Professor Gary Olson, University of Michigan and Dr Alex Voss, NCeSS.
Supporting Research Data Management at ECDL 2010
Monday, September 6th, 2010Liz Lyon, Director of UKOLN and Associate Director, Digital Curation Centre, will facilitate the panel on Developing Services to Support Research Data Management and Sharing during ECDL 2010 in Glasgow. The subject of the panel will be the current gap between the readiness of the current information environment to deal with large amounts of heterogeneous data and the disposition of academics in research institutions to update their practices of data management and curation. The panel will focus on this gap between digital library systems and researchers’ current practice in managing data and will explore appropriate services that can help to bridge it.
Registration for the 6th International Digital Curation Conference (IDCC) Now Open
Friday, September 3rd, 2010Registration is now open for this year’s International Digital Curation Conference (IDCC). It will take place over 6-8 December in Chicago. The theme of the 2010 conference is Participation and Practice: Growing the Curation Community through the Data Decade.
