Series of Free Web 2.0 and Social Web Workshops
Wednesday, October 21st, 2009A one-day workshop, sponsored by the MLA, introducing Web 2.0 and the Social Web to museums, libraries and archives staff will be touring the country in the next few months. It will visit Preston, Devizes, London, Leeds and Leicester. It is free to attend but places are limited. Bookings are now open.

Wednesday, October 14th, 2009The Call for Papers has opened for the CILIP Cataloguing and Indexing Group (CIG) Conference to be held 13-15 September 2010 in Exeter. Proposals should be submitted by 26 February 2010. Conference organisation will be by UKOLN.
UKOLN participating at DCMI 2009
Tuesday, October 13th, 2009UKOLN will be well-represented at this year’s International Conference on Dublin Core and Metadata Applications in Seoul, South Korea. 
Emma Tonkin, Talat Chaudhri and Paul Walk will be participating actively while Brian Kelly has recorded a contribution in advance. UKOLN will be introducing an innovative approach to the design of ‘application profiles’ which focuses both on engaging users at the earliest opportunity and on using an evidence-based, test-driven development approach. Text Mining for Scholarly Communications and Repositories Joint Workshop
Monday, October 5th, 2009UKOLN is co-hosting an open workshop with the National Centre for Text Mining NaCTeM on 28-29 October 2009. The Joint Workshop will be held at the Manchester Interdisciplinary Biocentre, University of Manchester. The Keynote presentation titled “eScience and Semantic Computing” will be given by Professor Tony Hey, Corporate Vice President, Microsoft External Research.
