Places are still available on a UKOLN workshop on “Exploiting the Potential of Wikis” which will address a variety of issues in the context of their use in Higher Education institutions. These will include how they relate to other technologies, the sustainability and support of Wikis, and their evaluation and deployment. This workshop will be held at Austin Court, Birmingham on Friday 3 November 2006.

Wednesday, September 20th, 2006Julie Allinson of UKOLN and Andy Powell of the Eduserv Foundation will be chairing a special session on metadata for scholarly publications (eprints) at the forthcoming Dublin Core conference in Mexico on 4 October 2006. The session will present work undertaken in the UK to develop a DC application profile for describing eprints. This work is unusual in that it has adopted FRBR as the underlying model, using the DC Abstract Model notion of a “description set” to capture a set of related descriptions about each of the main FRBR entities.
