DCC publishes Curation Manual chapter on Curating E-mails

The Digital Curation Centre has published a new chapter of its Digital Curation manual. Authored by Maureen Pennock, the chapter explores the issues in managing e-mail messages throughout their life cycle, from creation to preservation and long-term archiving or disposal.

Interactive Supplier Selector Toolkit launched

The Toolkit, created by UKOLN in partnership with MLA North East, is designed to provide museums, libraries and archives with a framework through which they can develop their knowledge, competence and confidence in commissioning commercial organisations to undertake work in the area of digitisation. It is provided as a resource for the DiSCS-UK (Digital Services for the Cultural Sector) Web site.

Initial release of software for structured information trails

Emma Tonkin, Interoperability Focus Officer at UKOLN, has made available her initial public release of wwtk, a wizard-style Web interface for structured information trails. It can be used as a wizard, an expert system, or as a backend for interactive fiction. Designed and built by UKOLN in partnership with MLA North East, the release comes bundled with sample content.

Liz Lyon has been invited to join the MLA Partnership Digital Agenda Scoping Group. She spoke on “Memory institutions and the social fabric of the Web” to the inaugural meeting of the Group on 26 June 2006. Slides from her presentation are now available.

DRS team produces “OAIS as a reference model for repositories: an evaluation”

The Digital Repositories Programme support team has produced a report evaluating the applicability of OAIS across different types of repositories. A draft for comment is now available and feedback on this report would be welcome.
