On 6 July 2006 Brian Kelly, UKOLN, will speak on “Impact Analysis for Web Sites” at this conference hosted by the University of Leicester”s Digital Heritage Research Group.

The director of UKOLN was invited to speak at the conference and AGM of the Society of College, National and University Libraries, held over 21-23 June in Newcastle. Her presentation, entitled “Digital libraries and digital scholarship: changing roles and responsibilities?”, is now available.

In a joint initiative with the eBank UK and SPECTRa projects, the Digital Curation Centre will deliver a workshop covering current best practice in data curation including examples of a pro-active approach and drawing upon the experience of chemistry and crystallography to illustrate user requirements, issues and barriers to implementation of curation methodologies.

The next quarterly meeting of the CETIS Metadata and Digital Repository Special Interest Group is to be hosted by UKOLN and will take place at the University of Bath on Tuesday 28 June. The meeting will include a presentation by Maureen Pennock of UKOLN on the Digital Curation Centre and the DCC Representation Information Registry.

Liz Lyon was invited to speak on current best practice in digital repositories at
an EU IST Research Infrastructure workshop entitled “European Infrastructure for Repositories of Scientific Information” held in Brussels over 8-9 June. The presentation, entitled “Digital repositories as research infrastructure: a UK perspective”, is now available.

The Digital Curation Centre has just announced the release of a paper by Maureen Pennock entitled “DSpace Digital Repository Software”. This is the first in a series of Technology Watch Papers which will offer a concise overview of existing and emerging technologies that can be selected to play a role in the curation and preservation of digital materials.

The plenary sessions of the 10th Institutional Web Management Workshop 2006 organised by UKOLN at the University of Bath are now available live in streaming video using cutting-edge open source technologies.

Representation information registries promise to make life much easier for those trying to interpret unfamiliar digital files. In his briefing paper, Alex Ball of UKOLN looks at a selection of existing file format and XML schema registries, as well as some of the more advanced registries currently being developed. This paper is one of a number of state-of-the-art reviews being written for the KIM Grand Challenge Project.

A poster entitled “Personalization and Accessibility: Integration of Library and Web Approaches”, co-authored by Ann Chapman and Brian Kelly of UKOLN, Liddy Nevile of La Trobe University and Andy Heath, consultant, formed part of the poster exhibition at the recent 15th International World Wide Web Conference.
