DC-assist updated

DC-assist, UKOLN”s help utility for metadata applications, has been updated to include details and examples for all the metadata terms currently in DCMI maintained namespaces (67 terms). The software includes 130 examples of how to use the terms and these are displayed using the DCMI recommended XHTML syntax.

DELOS Digital Repositories: Interoperability and Common Services Workshop

registration is now open for this workshop, to be held at The Foundation for Research and Technology (FORTH), Heraklion, Crete 11-13 May, 2005. The workshop will focus on the role of repositories within e-learning and e-research and related digital library services, and will consider such repositories as providers of both preservation and access services.

National Award for Stories from the Web

The Stories from the Web site is this year”s winner in the prestigious national eWell-being Awards in the eGovernment category. The awards, now in their third year, recognise and showcase individuals and organisations that use ICT to deliver tangible benefits to society. The Web site, which promotes reading and libraries in a fun way to young people globally, is managed by Birmingham Libraries and hosted by UKOLN.

DCMI Abstract Model becomes a recommendation

The DCMI Abstract Model, jointly authored by Andy Powell and Pete Johnston of UKOLN with Mikael Nilsson and Ambjörn Naeve of the KMR Group, CID, NADA, KTH (Royal Institute of Technology) in Sweden, has become a DCMI recommendation.

The UK Digital Curation Centre (DCC) is pleased to announce the dates of the 1st International Digital Curation Conference which will be held at the Hilton Bath City 29th-30th September 2005. The Digital Curation Centre (DCC) is jointly funded by the JISC (Joint Information Systems Committee) and the EPSRC (Engineering & Physical Sciences Research Council) on behalf of the UK Research Councils. The DCC provides a focus on research into digital curation expertise and best practice for the storage, management and preservation of digital information to enable its use and reuse over time.
