Ariadne Issue 43 (April 2005)

The Spring issue of Ariadne was published on 30 April and includes articles by Pete Johnston who introduces the JISC Information Environment Metadata Schema Registry (IEMSR) Project, Marieke Guy who examines what the Internet has to offer the art of reading, two articles on digital preservation and supporting best practice as well as a description of how the British Library”s training package for public library colleagues came to be designed. Our colleague here at University of Bath, Niki Panteli, identifies ways of developing trust within global virtual teams and Daniel Chudnov and his fellow authors” article on a “gather locally, share globally” approach to OpenURLs and metadata autodiscovery in scholarly and non-scholarly environments has much to offer.

Bookings open for IWMW 2005

This year”s Institutional Web Management Workshop will be held at the University of Manchester on 6-8 July. The theme this year is Whose Web Is It Anyway? Online bookings are being accepted. We recommend early booking due to the limited capacity of the lecture theatre.

Praise for Revealweb

Revealweb, the national database of material in accessible formats, was singled out for praise in the recent House of Commons Select Committee report on public libraries. Revealweb has also been awarded a Commendation for Widening Access to Information at the Jodi Mattes Webaccessibility Awards. Ann Chapman carried out the strategic review which resulted in the development of Revealweb, developed the bibliographic standard it uses and continues to provide advice to the service.

Issue 15 of the UKOLN Newsletter is now available online. The newsletter provides news, opinion and information on the wide range of activities undertaken by UKOLN, written by its staff. Many of the articles in the Web version are able to give more detail than their print version equivalent.
