A poster entitled “Archiving Web Site Resources: A Records Management View”, co-authored by Maureen Pennock and Brian Kelly of UKOLN, will form part of the poster exhibition at the 15th International World Wide Web Conference.

A poster entitled “Personalization and Accessibility: Integration of Library and Web Approaches”, co-authored by Ann Chapman and Brian Kelly of UKOLN, Liddy Nevile of La Trobe University and Andy Heath, consultant, will form part of the poster exhibition at the 15th International World Wide Web Conference.

UKOLN will be holding an Open Forum on the morning of Wednesday 14 June 2006, prior to the annual Institutional Web Management Workshop. The Open Forum, which will start at 10.00, will provide an opportunity to hear about a number of UKOLN”s activities and for participants to give feedback and to discuss the implications of such work. The Open Forum is open to all.

A paper by Brian Kelly of UKOLN with contributions by colleagues from JISC, CETIS, AHDS and OSS Watch will be presented at the workshop on E-Government:Barriers and Opportunities 2006, to be held in Edinburgh on 23 May 2006.

The eBank UK Project, led by UKOLN, featured in the ICT section of the 5 May 2006 issue of the Times Higher Education Supplement.

A Call for Participation and Exhibitors is issued for the “Metadata Tools for Digital Resource Repositories Workshop” at the JCDL 2006 Conference, 15 June 2006, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA. The goal is to communicate challenges and solutions regarding specific digital library metadata tools and software. A range of issues including metadata creation, management, preservation, display and retrieval will be addressed through discussions and an exhibition of tools.

JISC has funded a Digital Repositories Roadmap document to present a vision for 2010. This has been undertaken by Rachel Heery from UKOLN and Andy Powell from the Eduserv Foundation. This is a discussion document that provides context for project and programme work.

Brian Kelly gave a talk on “Synergies Between Open Standards and Open Source” at the OSS Watch conference held in Oxford over 10-12 April 2006. The talk outlined the approach UKOLN has developed for the use of open standards in JISC development programmes, and the parallels with use of open source software. Slides are available.

The slides from this presentation, given by Maureen Pennock of UKOLN at the DCC Workshop “Email Curation: Practical Approaches for Long-term Preservation”, are now available.

In order to support the recent Call for Proposals for JISC”s Capital Programme, UKOLN has published a briefing document which provides advice on the role of open standards within the development programmes.
