The Digital Repositories Programme support team has produced a report evaluating the applicability of OAIS across different types of repositories. A draft for comment is now available and feedback on this report would be welcome.

Initial release of Twiki-Mediawiki migration tool

As part of work on emerging software, UKOLN has conducted an ongoing investigation of approaches to migrating content betwen the popular platforms Twiki and Mediawiki. Now in response to external interest, UKOLN has released, under the GNU General Public License, software for use in the wider community that was originally developed for internal purposes.

The director of UKOLN was invited to speak at the conference and AGM of the Society of College, National and University Libraries, held over 21-23 June in Newcastle. Her presentation, entitled “Digital libraries and digital scholarship: changing roles and responsibilities?”, is now available.

Mini-workshop on data curation at UK e-Science All Hands Meeting

In a joint initiative with the eBank UK and SPECTRa projects, the Digital Curation Centre will deliver a workshop covering current best practice in data curation including examples of a pro-active approach and drawing upon the experience of chemistry and crystallography to illustrate user requirements, issues and barriers to implementation of curation methodologies.

UKOLN to host next quarterly CETIS MDR SIG meeting

The next quarterly meeting of the CETIS Metadata and Digital Repository Special Interest Group is to be hosted by UKOLN and will take place at the University of Bath on Tuesday 28 June. The meeting will include a presentation by Maureen Pennock of UKOLN on the Digital Curation Centre and the DCC Representation Information Registry.

Director of UKOLN gives UK perspective at Information Society Technologies workshop

Liz Lyon was invited to speak on current best practice in digital repositories at
an EU IST Research Infrastructure workshop entitled “European Infrastructure for Repositories of Scientific Information” held in Brussels over 8-9 June. The presentation, entitled “Digital repositories as research infrastructure: a UK perspective”, is now available.

DCC Technology Watch Paper on DSpace available

The Digital Curation Centre has just announced the release of a paper by Maureen Pennock entitled “DSpace Digital Repository Software”. This is the first in a series of Technology Watch Papers which will offer a concise overview of existing and emerging technologies that can be selected to play a role in the curation and preservation of digital materials.
