Report: Authentication Services for Public Libraries

Ann Chapman of UKOLN has provided a report to the MLA entitled Authentication Services for Public Libraries in which she describes the current situation, reviews how single sign-on authentication would benefit public libraries and e-content providers alike, and outlines proposals for a national strategy for the future. This report was commissioned by, and is jointly published by MLA.

UKOLN Presentations at Online Information Conference 2010

Two presentations will be given by UKOLN staff at Online Information Conference 2010 external link to be held from 30 November to 2 December 2010 at Olympia, London. Brian Kelly will be talking on Moving from Personal to Organisational Use of the Social Web and Marieke Guy will give a presentation entitled Home, Work, Work, Home!? How Information Professionals Can Exploit Blurred Boundaries.

DevCSI ePub/eBook Hackday

The DevCSI (Developer Community Supporting Innovation) Project has organised a free 2-day event in Bristol over 13-14 December 2010 in conjunction with the JISC-funded Application Profiles Support Project. This hackday event will bring together software developers, project managers and users particularly (though not exclusively) in Higher Education who share an interest in eBooks and particularly the open ePUB standard for ebooks. Exploring Agile Prototyping for Developers

DevCSI, the JISC-funded project which helps developers in HE to realise their full potential, has organised with the University of Manchester School of Computer Science a free one-day workshop which will explore various agile prototyping techniques. The event will take place on Tuesday 23 November 2010 at the School of Computer Science. Further details are available.
