IJDC 8(1): Feature on New Issue’s Content

UKOLN has recently published Volume 8, Issue 1 (2013) of the International Journal of Digital Curation on behalf of the Digital Curation Centre. It contains the usual mix of peer-reviewed papers and general articles; 17 derive from papers presented at the 2013 International Digital Curation Conference, while four were new contributions received by the Journal through general submission. A UKOLN news feature is now available to give readers a rapid overview of the papers and articles included.

Exploiting Research Data for Teaching at ALT-C 2012

Cathy Pink of UKOLN and Jez Cope of the University of Bath, both members of the JISC-funded Research360 Project, will be running a workshop entitled Exploiting Research Data for Teaching  (Workshop 188) on 11 September 2012 at the ALT-C 2012 Conference in Manchester. This workshop will explore how research data can be exploited for learning and teaching in Further and Higher Education, addressing the following questions:

  • What is research data?
  • How can data be exploited for teaching and learning?
  • Where can I find suitable data?
  • What licence applies to the data and how do I comply?
  • What contextual information is needed to make effective use of data?

Managing the Material: Tackling Visual Arts as Research Data

The Visual Arts Data Service (VADS) in conjunction with the Digital Curation Centre (DCC), through the JISC-funded KAPTUR Project, is running a one-day workshop looking at visual arts as research data. The workshop will take place on 14 September 2012. Marieke Guy of UKOLN will be co-facilitating a session on Where’s the data? What’s the use? Please note that although it is already sold out, materials from this event will be made available.

Digital Research 2012: Call for Contributions

Digital Research 2012 (formally the UK e-Science All-Hands Meeting) is being held in St. Catherine’s College, Oxford, over 10-12 September 2012. It is supported by the eResearch South Consortium, in which UKOLN is a partner.

The goal of the Digital Research 2012 Conference is to showcase today’s digital research practice and innovation, and to set an influential agenda for tomorrow.  The Conference theme is the Future of Digital Research and the organisers invite short papers, stories and videos giving your glimpse of “Digital Research in the Future” in (and between) any disciplines. They encourage originality and forward-thinking, and there will be awards for the best-rated submissions.
