Thursday, March 22nd, 2007The eXtensible Metadata Platform (XMP) from Adobe is a way of embedding Resource Description Framework (RDF) style metadata within digital images and documents, and is becoming popular in the area of digital asset management. A briefing paper on the capabilities of XMP, written by Alex Ball of UKOLN for the KIM Grand Challenge Project, is now available for public viewing.

Managing and preserving insitutional digital assets
Wednesday, March 14th, 2007Maureen Pennock, DCC Research Officer at UKOLN, contributed to this session at the Annual JISC Conference by speaking on the outcomes of a synthesis exercise on the JISC Digital Preservation and Asset Management Programme. Maureen introduced a range of tools, prototype services and examplars that were developed by projects funded within this programme that can be used to help institutions tackle the challenges of digital preservation and digital asset management.

Deployment Strategies for Web 2.0
Tuesday, March 6th, 2007Brian Kelly will give a talk entitled “Deployment Strategies for Web 2.0″ at the University of Nottingham on 12 March 2007. In his presentation Brian will review Web 2.0 and its potential benefits and also address the concerns which institutions may have in seeking to exploit it. He will outline deployment strategies for Web 2.0, based on an understanding of possible risks, organisational cultures and the threats and opportunities perceived by different groupings within the institution.
