Functional and Architectural Requirements for Metadata

Jian Qin of Syracuse University will be presenting a paper co-authored by herself, Alex Ball of UKOLN and Jane Greenberg of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, at the 2012 DCMI International Conference on Dublin Core and Metadata Applications (DC-2012). In the paper, entitled Functional and Architectural Requirements for Metadata: Supporting Discovery and Management of Scientific Data, Qin, Ball and Greenberg define systems requirements for metadata supporting the discovery and management of scientific data across multiple domains.

DC-2012 takes place on 3-7 September 2012 in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia and forms part of Knowledge Technology Week 2012.

Two ISC Papers Presented at OR 2012

Two papers presented at Open Repositories 2012 were co-authored by staff of the Innovation Support Centre at UKOLN. The papers were entitled Open Metrics for Open Repositories by Brian Kelly, Nick Sheppard, Jenny Delasalle, Mark Dewey, Owen Stephens, Gareth Johnson and Stephanie Taylor and Can LinkedIn and Academia.edu Enhance Access to Open Repositories? by Brian Kelly and Jenny Delasalle. Open Access Repository Registries: Unrealised Infrastructure?

Richard Jones of Cottage Labs, Sheridan Brown of Key Perspectives and Emma Tonkin of the Innovation Support Centre, UKOLN, have co-authored a paper entitled Open Access Repository Registries: unrealised infrastructure? to be presented at OR 2012 on 11 July during session P4B: Shared Repository Services and Infrastructure (2). It will present a comparative evaluation between OpenDOAR and ROAR, discuss stakeholder feedback, and propose a repository registry for the future. Data Management Planning at ICED11

A paper written by the ERIM Project team has been accepted for presentation at the 18th International Conference on Engineering Design (ICED11), to be held over 15-18 August 2011 in Copenhagen. The paper, Data Management Planning in Engineering Design and Manufacturing Research by Mansur Darlington, Alex Ball, Tom Howard, Chris McMahon and Steve Culley, will explain how the project characterised the nature of engineering research data and developed a modelling technique for visualising its context.

The ERIM Project is a JISC-funded collaboration between the Innovative Design and Manufacturing Research Centre at the University of Bath, and UKOLN in its capacity as part of the UK Digital Curation Centre.
