September 23rd, 2004 by Thom BuntingUKOLN and UCISA are jointly organising a workshop on “Beyond Email: Strategies for Collaborative Working and Learning in the 21st Century” which will address the challenges in deploying emerging technologies such as instant messaging, RSS news feeds, Blogs and Wikis across an institution. The workshop will be held at the University of Leeds on 22 November 2004.

July 30th, 2004 by Thom BuntingThe latest issue of Ariadne has a number of articles in relation to the Collection Description Focus: Ann Chapman and Bridget Robinson write on the work of the Collection Description Focus and introduce articles on Cornucopia, the Information Environment Service Registry and Tap into Bath, the latter being co-authored by Alison Baud of University of Bath Library and Learning Centre and Ann Chapman. Daniel Chudnov and colleagues describe a path “Towards Library Groupware with Personalised Link Routing” while Karen Coyle, author of “Rights Expression Languages: A Report for the Library of Congress”, makes a case in her article for the requirements of digital libraries with regard to Rights Management. Eric Lease Morgan provides a sound introduction to SRW/SRU, sibling Web Service protocols designed to define a standard form for Internet search queries. Meanwhile Jessie Hey describes how user needs have influenced the evolution of her university”s institutional repository, with references to the recent House of Commons Science and Technology Committee report.
