Registration is now open for the 3rd International Digital Curation Conference to be held in Washington D.C. on 11-13 December 2007. The conference will focus on emerging strategy, policy implementation, leading-edge research and practitioner experience.

Brian Kelly will give a talk entitled “Beyond Compliance – A Holistic Approach to Web Accessibility” at the Techshare 2007 Conference which will be held in London on 4 October 2007.

Brian Kelly will present a paper entitled “Accessibility 2.0: Blended Accessibility for Blended Learning” at Accessible Design in the Digital World 2 (ADDW2), taking place at the University of York on 19 September 2007. CANCELLED

Brian Kelly will give a talk entitled “Blogs, Wikis, Podcasting and All That: Web 2.0-Enabling Your Organisation” at a JISC Skills Update event which will be held at the Said Business School, Oxford on 5 September 2007.

Issue no. 52 of Ariadne was published last week with a strong bias towards
repositories. Sue Manuel and Charles Oppenheim take a look at recent developments in this area and present a light-hearted project narrative. Maurits van der Graaf looks at the current state of digital repositories for research output in the European Union and provides results and conclusions from the DRIVER inventory study, while Dana McKay summarises the literature on the usability of institutional repositories, and points to directions for future work. Meanwhile David Groenewegen and Andrew Treloar describe the role of repositories in the forthcoming Australian Research Quality Framework and the responses of the ARROW Project to its needs. Barbara Kirsop, Leslie Chan and Subbiah Arunachalam consider the impact of donor and open access to research publications in terms of the sustainable development of science in developing countries. Virginia Knight describes the open source alerting portlet developed by the Subject Portals Project and Jackson Pope and Philip Beresford report on progress at The British Library in installing and performance testing the Web Curator Tool. Jon Pratty looks at challenges faced by the 24 Hour Museum while Jill Russell looks at EThOSnet: Building a UK e-Theses Community. We are particularly indebted to Iain Wallace, Graeme West and David Donald who describe the origins, nature and establishment of Spoken Word Services at Glasgow Caledonian University. Ann Chapman, Pete Cliff, Shirley Keane and Paul Walk of UKOLN have been particularly industrious in their reports on events for this issue.

Brian Kelly will give a talk entitled “Introduction to Facebook: Opportunities and Challenges for the Institution” at a meeting of University of Bath Staff which will be held in Room 8W22, University of Bath, on Wednesday 29 August 2007.

The 3rd International Digital Curation Conference will be held on 11-13
December 2007, in Washington DC, USA. It is entitled “Curating our Digital Scientific Heritage: a Global Collaborative Challenge”. Due to overwhelming demand, the deadline for the Call for Papers has been extended until 31 August 2007; so there is still time to submit.

Bookings are now open for two CILIP Cataloguing and Indexing Group (CIG)
half-day seminars, both taking place on Wednesday 26 September 2007 at CILIP HQ in London. The morning session will be on MARC 21 and the afternoon will be devoted to the CIG Standards Forum, followed by the group AGM.

The second issue of the International Journal of Digital Curation, Vol.2, issue 1, 2007, was published on 27 July. A range of peer-reviewed papers and general articles on a variety of digital curation issues provides much material for consideration and debate.
