Dealing with Data: Perspectives on Progress to Date

Liz Lyon, Director of UKOLN, recently gave a short presentation at the Research Data Management Workshop organised by University of Oxford and held at the Said Business School, Oxford. Liz reflected on achievements and aspirations twelve months after publication of the UKOLN Report “Dealing with Data”, which examined roles, rights, responsibilities, and relationships for the effective curation of research data.

Euroscience Open Forum Satellite Event: Policy and Technology for e-Science

Prior to this year”s Euroscience Open Forum, on 16 – 17 July, Science Commons, SPARC, the Center for the Study of the Public Domain, and the Institut d”Estudis Catalans are organizing a
satellite event on the policies and technologies necessary to make good on the promise of scientific research in the networked era. The event, entitled “Policy and Technology for e-Science”,
will seek to lay out the principles of Open Science. Participants will include representatives from large-scale computing efforts in Europe, leading Open Access advocates, representatives from the European Commission and the European Science Foundation, Science Commons, Creative Commons, SPARC and the Center for the Study of the Public Domain, among others. The event is entirely free but there is a limited number of spaces.

Dealing with Data: One Year On

Liz Lyon will give a presentation on behalf of the Digital Curation Centre and UKOLN at a Max Planck eScience Workshop in Goettingen, Germany on 19-20 June. It is a year since the publication of the Dealing with Data Report, and Liz will bring things up to date with a brief look at the changing landscape, a review of UK progress on data issues as well as a consideration of some new challenges and opportunities in this area.

Preservation of Web Resources Workshop: Making a Start

The JISC-sponsored Preservation of Web Resources Project (JISC-PoWR) will be running its first workshop on Friday 27 June 2008 at Senate House Library, University of London. The workshop is designed for all those interested in issues relating to institutional Web resource preservation. Attendance is free.

The JISC-funded Preservation of Web Resources (JISC-PoWR) project blog is now available. The blog will provide an environment in which to discuss issues related to Web preservation and keep users up to date on upcoming workshops and resources. The project team hopes to provide postings on many areas including related technologies, policies and legal issues, and would like to encourage comments on posts.
