Free Social Web Workshop in Leicester for Cultural Heritage Sector

Ann Chapman of UKOLN will be running a one-day workshop in Leicester on Tuesday 22 February 2011 entitled The Social Web: Opportunities in Difficult Times. Run in partnership with the School of Museum Studies, University of Leicester, this workshop will consider how Social Web services can help libraries, museums and archives (especially small organisations with limited budgets and technical expertise) deliver services in new ways and reach new audiences. Attendance is free. Registration ends 13 February 2011. Further information and registration are obtainable from the UKOLN Web site.

Report: Authentication Services for Public Libraries

Ann Chapman of UKOLN has provided a report to the MLA entitled Authentication Services for Public Libraries in which she describes the current situation, reviews how single sign-on authentication would benefit public libraries and e-content providers alike, and outlines proposals for a national strategy for the future. This report was commissioned by, and is jointly published by MLA.

Tap into Bath Preservation Case Study

Ann Chapman has written a case study on the archiving of the Tap into Bath Web site. Tap into Bath was a demonstrator project to
create a searchable database of collection-level descriptions as part of the Collection Description Focus work programme back in 2004.
The site is now being archived for future reference.
