Update on ‘Cookie’ Legislation

On Tuesday 13 December the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) published a blog post entitled “Half term report on cookies compliance” which announced the release of updated guidance on the Government’s ‘cookie’ legislation. The implications of the guidance for those responsible for providing institutional Web sites have been described in a post on “The Half Term Report on Cookie Compliance” which has been published on the UK Web Focus blog.

Dealing with Very Personal Data

Professor Adam Hedgecoe, Associate Director CESAGEN and Dr Liz Lyon, Associate Director, Digital Curation Centre, gave a presentation to the 7th DCC Symposium entitled Share your genome? Dealing with very personal data. The Symposium, chaired by Clifford Lynch, Executive Director, CNI, formed part of the first day’s programme of the 7th International Digital Curation Conference (IDCC11). IDCC11 Releases Range of Resources

At the close of another successful International Digital Curation Conference (IDCC11), a range of resources arising from the Conference have been made available on the Digital Curation Centre Web site, including, among others, presentations, posters, videos and tweets  (hash tag #idcc11).

UK Web Focus Blog Runner-Up In IT Professional Blogger of the Year Award

The  Computer Weekly Social Media Awards confirmed that UK Web Focus Blog is runner-up in ‘IT Professional Blogger of the Year‘ category for 2011.

UK Web Focus has been published by Brian Kelly since November 2006.  In his 1,000th post on this blog published earlier today, Brian announced this new award and highlighted the importance of openness in the sector  as exemplified by this blog over its years of publication.

IDCC 11: Further Interviews with Conference Speakers

As part of its preparations for the 7th International Digital Curation Conference (IDCC 11), the Digital Curation Centre has arranged a series of interviews with the main speakers at the Conference.  In addition to the interview with Ewan McIntosh announced last week, we would wish to draw your attention to three further interviews with:

  • David Lynn, Head of Strategic Planning and Policy at the Wellcome Trust
  • Mark Hahnel from FigShare, Digital Science
  • Victoria Stodden, Assistant Professor at the Department of Statistics at the University of Columbia

who all share their views on the key issues surrounding the Conference.

The 7th International Digital Curation Conference (IDCC 11) takes place next week, so don’t forget to book your place both for the main event and the pre- and post-conference workshops.  The IDCC 11 Conference begins on Tuesday 6 December at the Marriott Royal Hotel, Bristol.

 

IDCC11 Preview: An Interview with Ewan McIntosh

The 7th International Digital Curation Conference (IDCC 11) is now just 2 weeks away so don’t forget to book your place both for the main event and the pre- and post-conference workshops.

As a preview to the Conference, the Digital Curation Centre is  releasing a series of short interviews with the main conference speakers.  The first interview is with the opening keynote speaker Ewan McIntosh, the CEO of NoTosh, in which he gives insights into some of the current issues and a taster about what to expect when Ewan takes  a look at public data opportunities as he opens the first day of IDCC 11 on Tuesday 6 December at the Marriott Royal Hotel, Bristol.

 

UKOLN Seminar: Postponed

UK Web Focus Blog Short-listed for National Social Media Award

The UK Web Focus blog has been short-listed for the IT Professional blogger of the year category of the Computer Weekly Social Media Awards.

As described in a post about the award, the blog is the only short-listed entry published by someone working in the Higher Education sector.

The UK Web Focus blog is provided by Brian Kelly. As described in a post about the fifth anniversary of the blog, it was launched on 1 November 2006 and there have now been 994 posts published.

If you would like to vote for this blog you should visit the Computer Weekly Social Media Awards 2011 page.  The award winners will be announced on Tuesday 29 November so there may be an opportunity for a celebratory 1,000th post!
