Free Research Data Management Workshops

The UK Digital Curation Centre is running a series of inter-linked regional workshops as part of the DCC Roadshow at the beginning of March 2011. Running over the three days of the Roadshow, free workshops will provide advice and guidance tailored to a range of staff, including PVCs Research, University Librarians, Directors of IT/Computing Services, Repository Managers, Research Support Services and practising researchers on the topic of institutional research data management planning and training. Free Event on Linked Data January 2011

The JISC-funded ResearchRevealed and DevCSI projects have jointly organised a free two-day workshop for software developers, research information managers, researchers, librarians and linked data experts who are interested in the development of linked data, systems and services. The event will take place over 13 – 14 January, 2011 in Bristol and includes free accommodation.

IDCC 2010 Releases Video Material from Conference

DevCSI ePub/eBook Hackday

The DevCSI (Developer Community Supporting Innovation) Project has organised a free 2-day event in Bristol over 13-14 December 2010 in conjunction with the JISC-funded Application Profiles Support Project. This hackday event will bring together software developers, project managers and users particularly (though not exclusively) in Higher Education who share an interest in eBooks and particularly the open ePUB standard for ebooks. Evolution or Revolution?

The DCC recently held its first Regional Roadshow (south west) in Bath. Liz Lyon, Director of UKOLN and Associate Director, DCC, gave the opening plenary presentation entitled Evolution or revolution? The changing data landscape on the first day of the Roadshow which was devoted to looking at the Research Data Landscape and offered a selection of case studies highlighting different models, approaches and working practice. She also facilitated the participative workshop held on Day 2, which focused on developing institutional strategies for research data management. Liz’ presentation slides are available.

DevCSI Event on Modelling Workflows and Business Processes

UKOLN Article in New Review of Academic Librarianship

Sharing Health Records in the US and UK

As part of the 7th International Conference on Knowledge Management (ICKM-2010) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Deborah Swain, Emma Tonkin and Linda Doll (moderator) will debate means, mechanisms and pitfalls in the sharing of health records in the US and UK. The panel will take place at 3.30pm on Friday 22 October.

Opportunities for and Barriers to Engineering Research Data Re-use

The ERIM (Engineering Research Information Management) Project has released its third deliverable, a report entitled Opportunities for and Barriers to Engineering Research Data Re-use. Within the six engineering studies examined by the report, there were found to be different opportunities for data re-use depending on whether the researchers were simply characterising a scenario or testing possible improvements. A range of barriers were encountered, ranging from commercial sensitivity to specialist hardware platforms. The ERIM Project is part of the JISC’s Managing Research Data Programme, looking at data management planning in EPSRC-funded projects. It is a collaboration between the Innovative design and Manufacturing Research Centre (IdMRC) at the University of Bath and UKOLN, representing the DCC.
