Marieke is one of 5 shortlisted winners in the ‘remote worker award’ category. The winner will be announced on 10 September during a ceremony at Cliveden House, Berkshire.
Time to Be Flexible
Monday, August 17th, 2009In an article published in the e-Access Bulletin (August 2009) Brian Kelly argues that policy makers need to take a more flexible approach to Web accessibility than simply requiring conformance with WAI (Web Accessibility Initiative) guidelines
. Brian suggests that the Web Adaptability approach, described in a recent peer-reviewed paper
which embraces the UN Convention’s definition of accessibility, provides an approach more suited to addressing the real-world deployment challenges posed by the technical complexities of today’s Web environment, the rich diversity of uses made of the Web as well as the differing needs and requirements of individual users.
Julian Cheal wins Prize at Repository Fringe

Ariadne Issue 60 Published
Wednesday, August 12th, 2009Issue 60 of Ariadne was published recently with a variety of main articles on subjects as diverse as findings from a UKRDS survey of researchers, views on preservation of research data, the impact of overlay and data journals in the meteorological sciences, and the National Library of Norway’s digitisation strategy. It also offers an article by Ann Chapman and Rosemary Russell of UKOLN on the challenge of collecting evidence for a study of how Web 2.0 is being used in the UK HE sector.
Paper on “Library 2.0: Balancing the Risks and Benefits to Maximise the Dividends” published
Monday, August 10th, 2009A paper on “Library 2.0: Balancing the Risks and Benefits to Maximise the Dividends” has recently been published in the Program journal (Program Electronic Library and Information Systems, 43 (3), pp. 311-327). This paper was originally presented at the Bridging Worlds 2008 conference held at the National Library of Singapore in October 2008. The lead author of the paper is Brian Kelly and the other contributors are Paul Bevan (National Library of Wales), Richard Akerman (National Research Council Canada Institute for Scientific and Technical Information, Ottawa, Canada), Jo Alcock (University of Wolverhampton) and Josie Fraser (consultant).
