The JISC/CNI Meeting, now the seventh in a successful series of conferences, met to debate the theme of “Transforming the
User Experience”. Over 130 delegates heard presentations by experts from the United States, Europe and the United Kingdom on a range of topics relating to information systems in education and the delivery of digital services and resources for learning, teaching and research. Monday, July 28th, 2008The Institutional Web Management Workshop 2008 with the theme “The Great Debate” has concluded successfully.
The event held in Aberdeen was attended by over 180 delegates and much discussion occurred on how Web 2.0 is being integrated into Institutional Web Management practice. Resources are now
available from the Web site (on session abstract pages) and on slideshare.

JISC-PoWR Launches Its First Workshop
Wednesday, July 9th, 2008The first JISC-PoWR workshop took place recently at the University of London with over 30 delegates from a wide range of professional groupings including the Web Management and Records Management communities. The workshop, entitled “Preservation of Web Resources: Making a Start”, considered how delegates could set about including Web resources in their wider preservation strategy. Presentations from the Workshop are now available.
E-Journals Access and Management
Tuesday, July 8th, 2008Routledge have announced the appearance of a new book on the management of
electronic journals. Edited by Wayne Jones of Queen”s University of Kingston,
Ontario, the book takes a comprehensive look at how e-journals have changed the library landscape and offers information professionals strategies to improve the management of such publications. Michael Day, team leader of UKOLN Research & Development, has contributed a chapter on preserving the digital outputs of scholarly communication.

recently published by Routledge entitled “E-Journals Access and Management”.
German Commission for UNESCO Encourages Debate on Scientific Publishing
Monday, July 7th, 2008The German Commission for UNESCO has just announced the publication of the English translation of its 2007 handbook
on Open Access. The handbook, entitled “Open Access Opportunities and Challenges – A Handbook” intends to inform stakeholders and society in general of the opportunities and challenges surrounding open access, and to promote a broad and inclusive debate on the future of scientific publishing in the European Research Area. This English version is a joint publication with the European Commission”s Science in Society Programme.
